Learn Pyne from scratch: a free book for building indicators and strategies

Our new book, Trading indicators and strategies with Pyne code, is now available online, free to read in 12 languages.

It starts with the basics. You don’t need to know Python, Pine Script, or any other programming language, and you don’t need previous trading experience. You’ll learn Pyne directly, using its Python syntax to write programs and see what they do on a chart.

Throughout the book, you work in PyneIDE. You begin with a simple price chart, add calculations and moving averages, then build a configurable indicator with crossover signals. Along the way, you learn how historical values and persistent state work, write your own functions, and use the debugger to inspect calculations candle by candle.

The later chapters turn those signals into a strategy. You’ll test it on historical data, explore commissions and exits, and bring the pieces together in a final project.

The book includes step-by-step instructions, screenshots, downloadable example programs, and exercises with solutions. You practice with sample data, so you can follow along without a brokerage account.

If you’ve wanted to build your own indicators but haven’t known where to start, this book gives you a path from your first lines of code to a working strategy.
